Intel: KELP FOREST
Visit the Intel Lobby in Santa Clara, California, and dive headfirst into an enthralling underwater world! Developed for Intel® RealSense™ cameras and two massive LED installations, Kelp Forest is one of the main attractions on Intels‘ refurbished Lobby.
In detail
Since 2017, Intel Corporation welcomes visitors with a new twofold LED screen system, the Brand Story Wall at the lobby entrance, and the Digital Skylight towering over the lounge. In cooperation with Agency Inside, we developed Kelp Forest in the image of an idealized Californian bay area, teeming with Garibaldis, reef sharks, jellyfish, and swarms of silvery sardines.
For the interactive part of the project, the Brand Story Wall was outfitted with six Intel® RealSense™ cameras, which provide depth data when visitors get close to the screen. Depending on this distance, the sardine swarms will either flock around the visitor if he/she stands relatively still or disperse when the detected movements are too hectic. Also, the application will automatically adjust the scene lighting and particle effects according to the current time of day, so there’s always something new to see!
To better understand the in-app dimensions in relation to the real lobby, we’ve also built a previz VR scene. This helped us and the client tremendously in judging proportions, animation speeds, and lighting settings along the whole development process.
